Postural Balance and Strain

Our posture effects us physically and psychologically. Poor posture can lead to pain, injury and loss of mental acuity. The repetitive nature and strain of work often contributes to postural imbalances. Postural strain over time can lead to limited mobility and loss of independence.

The main postural imbalances that Remedial Massage Therapists encounter are:

  1. an excessive curve to the lumbar spine (called a hyper-lordosis) with an anterior pelvic tilt
  2. excessive curves (hyper-kyphosis) of the upper spine and neck causing forward head carriage.

Lumbar Lordosis and Anterior Pelvic Tilt

Being aware of one’s posture and following some simple exercises can make all the difference.
